Climate Change Roadmap: Chris Allen

Hey Transition Yarra!

My name’s Chris, I work for AYCC Victoria.

AYCC Vic is working on our latest campaign which I think you might find interesting: to move Australia away from harmful coal and gas practices and towards a safer climatefuture – its called the Safe Climate Roadmap campaign: a vision of 100% renewables in 10 years, to rapidly reduce our carbon pollution in line with the latest science and to commit to move beyond coal and gas.

~~We have just started a website and are looking for a diverse range of stories from Victorians who have felt the affects of CC, signed onto the Roadmap or have something else to share on the issue.~~

If you would like to add your story (you can see mine, Chris Allan from Brunswick) that would be so rad, its good publicity for your page as well:http://www.roadmap.org.au/ Even more rad would be if you shared the link on your page for others!

Cheers and here’s to a good year of community action on climate in Yarra. Chris

Clothing swap ideas.

Last night I attended a clothing swap arranged by some friends. The clothes were sorted into piles and one very humorous friend ‘sold’ us each item. Someone would indicate they wanted to try it on. When all the pile had been reviewed, everyone tried on the clothes at the same time. Very orderly I know, but a lot of fun. Suggest you organise a swap with friends and neighbours. Do let us know how it goes:) All clothing was free and left overs were taken to the op shop.

Keep Tasmania’s Old Growth & High Conservation Value Forests on the UNESCO World Heritage List

Hi there Transition Yarra

I am writing to you regarding the current governments proposed undoing of environmental protections in the world heritage listed, old growth and high conservation value forests of Tasmania.

In response, Abby Gee (One Little Indian Enterprises) created a petition in November, which has had a huge response and we now (quite desperately) need your support. News is ramping up on the 170,000 hectares of habitat for endangered animals) with 66,000 signatures.

Bob Irwin ‘Crocodile Dundee’s dad’, BBC “Kangaroo Dundee” star Chris ‘Brolga’ Barnes, Missy Higgins and John Butler have also signed and supported, as well as many other, international and Australian signatories.

Please also find attached the TV Commercial link

This is a pivotal issue, and the deadline is looming, I need all the assistance I can get, if you can share the links and encourage your followers to sign.

Garden variety climate change deniers

The Australian Independent Media Network

Whack-a-moleThe effects of climate change are not just a scientific model which may or may not happen sometime in the way off future. Climate change is in front of our eyes. As I write this, the temperature outside is 43.8 degrees, heading for a forecast of 46. This would make it the hottest day of my life and today Adelaide is the hottest city in the world. The weather, of course, is just weather and doesn’t in itself prove climate change is real. What does prove climate change is real is scientific study of the influence of carbon emissions on the world’s climate. Scientific consensus has monumentally smashed any sort of doubt by, at last count, showing only 0.01% of climate scientists questioning the validity of anthropogenic climate change as scientific fact. But, while the experts tell us climate change is happening, and while I experience for myself the…
