Join the Darebin Community Fruit Squad!

The City of Darebin is partnering with the Jika Jika Community Centre and Transition Darebin to recruit volunteers to harvest fruit from backyard trees in the Darebin area and distribute the surplus fruit to people in n

eed. Joining the Fruit Squad will give volunteers a chance to learn horticultural skills, make new friends and pursue an active lifestyle.We are offering a subsidised 7 week professional course in fruit tree horticulture & volunteer practices by NMIT Fairfield. The course consists of 3 hour weekly sessions running from the first week in October until the second week in November, and will be held at NMIT Fairfield and the Jika Jika community Centre in Northcote.

Learning modules will include:

Tool maintenance and user safety
Seasonal fruit tree maintenance including soil health and pruning,
Pest and disease recognition.

A certificate of completion with be awarded by NMIT upon completion
